Styles matter more than records. A 15-2 record against a 12-5 tells you far less than knowing one man cannot defend takedowns. Method and round markets, in detail

These are where MMA betting gets interesting and where the margin quietly doubles, so they deserve unpacking.

Method of victory splits a fight into knockout, submission, decision and occasionally draw. The prices look generous because each outcome is genuinely uncertain — and the book has priced all four with a margin on each, so the total overround runs 5.5% to 7% against 4.5% on the straight winner.

Round betting multiplies that further. A three-round fight has six or more winner-and-round combinations, a five-round main event has ten or more, and each carries its share of the spread. Eight per cent is common and it is charged whichever outcome lands.

Fight to go the distance is the cleanest of the exotics — two outcomes, so the margin stays closer to the straight winner. If you have a read on whether a fight finishes rather than on who wins, this is the cheaper way to express it.

The general rule holds across every sport: the more outcomes a market has, the more you pay. A parlay of exotics compounds the margin on each leg, which is why they pay so well and lose so reliably.

Beyond the UFC

Coverage extends past the UFC to the larger regional and international promotions, though depth drops away — fight winner markets rather than the full range, and wider margins reflecting less liquidity.

Bare-knuckle and the crossover boxing cards that have become a fixture of combat sport get coverage on the largest events. Those are the hardest of all to price, since the participants frequently have no comparable record, and the margins show it.
